Shopping Cart PinBall Machine

This was created as a response to an assignment to design a pinball machine. As someone who is not a huge fan of arcades, I decided to remove my design from the loud setting and place it instead at a grocery store, where it is more accessible to the general public. Unlike a normal pinball machine where the main drive is to increase your score, my main driver was achieving a minimum score to get stickers. This reduces the addictive quality of the game and ends on a more satisfying note.

The Design was inspired by a grocery cart of a college student. Filled to the brim with packaged food rather than healthy groceries, it reflected my daily purchases as a freshman. The pastel colors were chosen to reduce the visual load on the user's eyes and make it pop more under the harsh fluorescent white lights of the store. The graphic style went away from the traditional pinball machine and its rendered drawings to a more cute style.

The Exterior is Inspired directly by a shopping cart and is created using laser-cut acrylic sheets and rods. The bottom is held by a brown grocery bag filled with some 3d versions of items inside the cart. The child seat holds the instructional guidelines, made in the shape of a receipt. The lock chain in the front doubles as the ball release.
